Who am I?

I’m a French guy born in the 1980s who discovered wargames and tabletop gaming as a teenager.

Back then, I played games like Warhammer Fantasy, Blood Bowl, Man’O’War, Warhammer 40k, and Epic. Although I wasn’t the best player and often lost battles, I absolutely loved collecting miniatures, painting them, and building terrain for myself and my friends.

I could spend hours immersed in building, converting, and painting miniatures. For a small fee, I even painted miniatures for some friends who were less skilled than I was and wanted a nice army.

Then life happened. I started working and gradually stopped playing, collecting, and painting.

Twenty years later, I find myself reflecting on that period with nostalgia and decided to explore how the hobby has evolved over the years.

Oh boy, I wasn’t disappointed!

And, just like that, I’m back at the workbench, painting miniatures once again…

Wait what?! But I didn’t have a workbench a month ago, what happend here??? – Dex, realizing he is deep in the hobby again…

The reason is quite simple: I’ve engaged in artistic activities my whole life. Whether it’s drawing, painting on canvas, building models and dioramas, creating 3D models, or writing, I have a deep need to create and tell stories.

That’s why I especially love miniature painting and, in particular, crafting dioramas. It’s an incredible sensation to have an idea in your mind, build a narrative around it, and ultimately create a piece of art that allows you to express that vision. I can’t fully describe it, but there’s a magical quality to the experience.

Why this site?

I have a ton of ideas for dioramas and other artistic projects in my head, but I tend to procrastinate a lot. This is mainly because I’m afraid to invest time in something only to realize, in the end, that I’m not happy with the result.

But that’s how you learn, right?

Eventually, I’ve come to realize that to stay active, I need to publish my work.

It’s not that I believe I have a lot of talent or that I can teach others anything, but simply having some kind of “obligation” to share my progress provides enough motivation to keep me engaged.

I know it might sound a bit strange, but that’s how my brain works. Who am I to judge?!

What can you expect to find here?

Expect to see plenty of dioramas, or at the very least, some scenic bases, as I find it challenging to paint a miniature without incorporating it into a setting. After all, telling stories is the goal, right?

The content is organized into three main sections:

• WIPS

  Raw pictures of projects I’m currently working on. If you want to follow along, this is the place.

• Experiments

  Details articles about my experiments. Each article explore a specific topic, allowing you to see my tries and errors. Maybe you’ll learn something, maybe not, but at least you won’t reproduce my errors.

• Projects

  My finished projects of single miniatures, busts and dioramas. With pictures of the final project, along with photos of the steps to get there (for each model/base).

I’ll do my best to document the process of each project as thoroughly as possible to share with you. Sometimes this will take the form of simple photos taken at the workbench, while other times it will be detailed articles on specific topics.

I enjoy sharing my experiments, as it helps me consolidate what I’ve learned throughout the process. And if someone finds useful information in my work, that’s a wonderful bonus!
